Welcome to another newsletter from everyone here at Arena. It’s a busy time of the year as we head into the Summer with lots of exhibitions and shows for you to visit and enjoy. So let’s get started…

Kathy Harcom FRPS

A recorded lecture about Kathy Harcom’s outstanding Darkroom photography is being made for both Archive purposes and an opportunity for PAGB clubs to view it. It’s an appreciation of her pastoral Infra-Red Lith printed pictures, set to a commentary which will be available from September.

Most of you know Kathy was in Arena for many years until she and her family moved to New Zealand. She is now home again, but is no longer involved with photography due to her long term health condition.

Outdoor Photography features Jan Beesley

In Jan’s words…

I am very excited to be featured in the latest issue of Outdoor photography magazine (issue 318). It’s a substantial feature covering 8 pages and I am very pleased with the article Nick Smith has written, which opens with the lines:

“Jan Beesley’s stunning Sussex landscapes represent an intersection between art and photography…”

Exhibitions to visit

Jan Beesley exhibits and South East Open Studios

A busy month for Jan as she exhibits at the South East Open Studios which runs from the 6th to the 22nd of June.

South East Open Studios is one of the most established annual arts events in the UK; it is a month long event showcasing creative talent, and strengthening visual arts across the whole region.

For the diary

Later this year there will be a series of events which you won’t want to miss.
It’s early days so there isn’t much information to share at the moment but our very own Susan Brown will be featuring on the 27th of November so please mark that date in your diary.

More information and links etc in the coming months.

That’s all for now

As we move forward, we’ll continue to keep you updated on all things Arena.

Please make sure you have the dates for the 2026 Seminar in your diaries (March 20th to March 22nd 2026). We are busy planning an incredible line up of Speakers for this, our 40th Seminar so it is definitely not to be missed. The lecture theatre at the Riviera Hotel in Bournemouth was at full capacity this year and we expect demand to be even greater next year. Please watch this space…

Until next time…
